Kyero now using Locale translation managament

Last week, we actually used Locale in anger and updates some live translations of the Kyero.com web site. Here’s how it happened:

Kyero was set up as a project inside Locale, and the project manager for Kyero invited me to sign-in and manage translations.

In this particular case I was given access to all of the locales set up for Kyero. The project manager actually made me an administrator, but he could have allocated me simple translator privileges for a single locale pair too.

I knew the text (strings) which needed updating so I browsed the string hierarchy within Locale for the Kyero project until I found the ones I was looking for and updated four pieces of text

Locale automatically updated the language files on our staging server and I visually checked that all was OK there. We then deployed those them to the live Kyero system.

All in all, the process took 10 minutes and this was a really big step forward for both Kyero and Locale. It means that we’re closer to being able to add more languages to Kyero and closer to launching Locale so that other Rails developers can use it for their own projects.
